How to remove unwanted Line Marking

Painting over, pressure washing, sand or shot blasting, and surface grinding are some methods that can be used to eliminate undesired or unnecessary line marking.

Once you’ve assessed the current marking in your parking lot, warehouse, or other facilities, you may wonder how to eliminate line marking paint from concrete or different surface types. Here are some of the most typical approaches, along with their benefits and drawbacks:

High-Pressure Cleaning

Pressure washing may be an option for removing existing line markings, depending on the surface and age of the markings. In most cases, this technique can eliminate lines in concrete without causing surface damage.

Grinding the Surface of Asphalt or Concrete

Grinding a surface to remove paint or markings is a frequent practice. After the surface is ground down, it will be smooth enough for new line marking to be applied. As the ground surface is affected by weather or traffic, it eventually becomes unnoticeable.

Scarifying

After removing old line markings on bitumen or uneven concrete, a scarifier can be connected to a dust extractor system and clean up the surface. By grinding the bitumen with tungsten points, the scarifier removes the existing line marking but leaves a rough surface. Traffic immediately smoothed the roughness, so this isn’t a major issue.

Sand or Shot Blasting

To remove existing paint, sand, steel beads, or other inputs are fired at high velocity onto the surface. The type of shot utilised in this procedure will vary depending on how much force the surface can sustain. Using steel shots, for instance, can result in the removal of several millimetres of the surface, creating a rough surface that can increase bonding for fresh line marking. Typically, machines that perform this function will gather dust and residue to reduce mess and pollutants.

Painting 

This method involves painting over the existing line marking. The colour should match the surrounding surface, such as black for asphalt or grey for concrete. This will give a clean and uniform surface for applying the new marking. Make sure that the space is clean and prepared for new line marking.
